We work alongside schools to provide a quality, engaging education for ALL students.
Many schools in Minneapolis are doing good work and have a commitment to closing the opportunity gap. We support schools that serve low-income communities in developing and implementing plans that will take them from good to great.
Our Good to Great Approach
Each school in our portfolio developed a customized Good to Great Success Plan that identifies goals and priorities over a three year timeline. We provide funding and guidance throughout the process which includes strategic interventions that build and strengthen leadership’s capacity at the instructional, operational, and governance levels.
The Leadership Accelerator brings the most effective and scalable parts of our Good to Great work to a larger community of schools. It is a cohort model anchored in an 18-month, three-phase diagnostic review process, intensive planning, and initial implementation. To ensure the implementation of the plan, schools receive access to strategic interventions proven to be most impactful.
Minnesota Literacy Coalition
Building on years of work of partners and elected leaders, Great MN Schools, the National Parents Union MN, and Minneapolis Public Schools launched the Minnesota Literacy Coalition (MLC) in 2023. As the convening organization for MLC, we rallied individuals and organizations to develop a shared vision for literacy success in the Twin Cities. Together, more than 75 passionate leaders, parents, and educators have formed three dedicated action teams working toward a future where every Minnesota child achieves literacy success.
Literacy Needs Assessment
To understand what was standing in the way of the needs of students, teachers, and schools, we commissioned a needs assessment focused on elementary literacy instruction in 2020. In seeking to identify what’s working in classrooms and to better understand academic shortcomings in literacy we identified concrete recommendations to better assist local school communities.
Strong school-home partnerships are vital for student success. Teachers, school leaders and families need to work together in order to effectively impact student learning and well-being.
We partner with Learning Heroes to help schools strengthen their family engagement practice. This includes free parent-teacher planning tools and resources and a nine-month family engagement leadership institute.
Minnesota Standard Family Guides
These guides lay out what our state and our schools expect kids to know and be able to do each year. Our goal is for this resource to act as a bridge for families and schools.
