IMPACT REPORT

2024

Creating effective change so that every child in Minneapolis has access to a high-quality school that meets their needs.

We work alongside schools, families, and communities to create a critical mass of great schools, families that demand them, and systems that support them.

Effective Schools

This year we supported 19 schools serving nearly 9,000 students (87% low-income, 93% Black, Indigenous, students of color)

Engaged Families

This year we distributed 35,000+ MN Standards Guides and Minneapolis School Finder guides, had 16,000+ visitors to our online resources (an all time high), and reached over 15,000 families through community partnerships.

Stories of Impact

Meet Sakai

Sakai transferred to New City School as a 7th grader in search of a better fit school. When she arrived, she was 3 grade-levels behind in both math and reading.

Sakai was introduced to New City’s strong curriculum and set up with a tutor. By the time she reached 8th grade, Sakai went from performing at a 4th grade level in reading to a 7th grade level.

Thanks to their work with Great MN Schools, New City has been able to implement targeted, intentional practices to ensure students like Sakai aren’t left behind.

“We couldn’t be where we are today and on this trajectory without Great MN Schools.”
– Andrew Granias, Assistant Director New City School

Meet Jose

When Jose’s kids started coming home from school complaining about bullying and falling behind in class, he decided to look for other options.

Centro Tyrone Guzman introduced him to the Minneapolis School Finder and helped him find a better fit based on location, academics and culture.

Since moving to Prodeo Academy the kids are much happier, their grades have improved, and communication with teachers is stronger.

“I have seen such a difference. My daughters now really enjoy going to school. I am so glad these tools and support were available to me.”
– Jose, Minneapolis Father of 3

Meet Jacinta

As a mother of two children with special needs, Jacinta is passionate about having a voice in the changes she wants to see in the education system.

Jacinta participated in the 2024 Get on Board program where she learned what it takes to run for School Board.

Because of the information and support she received in this program, Jacinta is planning to run for school board!

“I am running because it’s time. We can change. It may take baby steps, but we can make it happen.”
– Jacinta, Get on Board Cohort 3 participant
