Changemakers Twin Cities brings together a diverse group of civic leaders who understand that high-quality public education and a vibrant community go hand-in-hand.

By participating in this program, current business, social and policy sector leaders will deepen their understanding of the challenges, complexities and opportunities of the K-12 educational ecosystem in the Twin Cities and inspire them to create constructive change.

For the Twin Cities to thrive we need today’s leaders engaged in K-12 education now.
Investment in today’s workforce leads to a stronger region tomorrow.

Our education system holds immense potential to cultivate achievement and success for its students.

Students from every background have big goals for their future. Families and teachers are showing up everyday to create a positive learning environment in hopes that each student can accomplish their dreams.

However, too many students are not getting the education they deserve. We can make a change.

FAQ

Who should apply?

The cohort will be made up of a diverse group of leaders, from different backgrounds, sectors, and perspectives on education. Changemakers Twin Cities seeks participants who are passionate about the Twin Cities, and want to positively contribute to improving the region in one of the most vital ways — a thriving K-12 educational system that works for all students.

What content does the cohort cover?

You’ll have a chance to have conversations with district leaders, policymakers, school board members, community leaders, all while visiting schools, and tackling contemporary challenges facing educators, students, and families.

What is the commitment required to participate?

Changemakers Twin Cities will meet six times over the school year. In addition participants will have the opportunity to take a trip to another city to meet with leadership in that city, visit schools and learn about how that city is effectively tackling issues of education equity. We ask that all participants miss no more than two sessions. Because this is a program for working professionals, readings and pre-work will be limited.

Will Changemakers have a fee associated with it?

Changemakers Twin Cities is completely free to participants. While participants may choose to incur costs throughout the program (for preference in parking or food options), the goal of the program is to be completely cost neutral for all participants.

Will Changemakers provide a stipend?

Changemakers Twin Cities is not a paid opportunity. However, for participants who are not able to join the program as professional development through their employers, we ask that interested parties reach out to Great MN Schools to discuss possible funds to cover the cost of missed working opportunities.

What does the work look like after the program?

Changemakers Twin Cities is not a prescriptive program, with a specific outcome in mind for participants, nor are fellows expected to complete a final project. To successfully complete the fellowship, we ask all Changemakers to identify one way that they may take a larger role in the educational ecosystem.

How do I apply?

Changemakers Twin Cities is by invitation only. To become a Changemaker, please reach out to Kyle Parsons at kparsons@greatmnschools.org.
