2026 MN Literacy Day at the Capitol
Tuesday, April 21st, 2026
9:30-11:00am
Every child deserves to learn to read, and you can help make that happen. Join families, students, educators, and advocates at the Minnesota State Capitol to stand up for strong implementation of the READ Act.
This is your chance to see democracy in action, make your voice heard, and show lawmakers that literacy is a priority for Minnesota kids.
Why is it important to attend?
We need to show legislators that literacy is an important issue and that struggling with reading affects a significant part of the population. We need their support for legislative change now and in the future. It is also a great opportunity for students to see democracy at work and to find strength in numbers.
Before you attend:
Contact your legislators for an individual meeting after the Rally. Call today to schedule an appointment.
Find your MN Senator and MN Representative at http://www.gis.leg.mn/iMaps/districts/.
Agenda:
9:30am – Arrive at the Rotunda. Allow ample time for parking and getting through security.
9:45am Gather in the Rotunda. Participate in group photo in the Rotunda (bring your poster).
10:00am Literacy Rally begins! Hear speeches from students, teachers, advocates, and state legislators.
10:45am Crowd adjourns to mingle & attend meetings with legislators, if you have made appointments.

Engage your children:
• Make a poster to bring to the rally. Gather others in your district to make signs and plan to attend together! Examples include: Support SF1842/HF60, Childhood Has No Rewind; Equitable Education for ALL; Literacy for All; Education Equity is Racial Equity; Science of Reading for Literacy Success, Road 2 Reading, Until All Can Read, or create your own!
• Books for kids will be provided! Don’t forget to a grab a copy for your reader.
